I spent 12 years racing stock cars in the Pacific Northwest. Here are some of the cars we raced. My pit crew consisted of mostly Matt and Dave (two of my sons ... mike wasn't old enough). We had basically two successful years. ... 1980 when we won 6 races, rookie of the year, and took 7th place in championship points. ... and 1985 when we actually made money racing.

Hear I am leading the pack in the number 44 modified.  This 34 Ford sat on a racing chassis and was powered by a 289 Small Block Ford making about 350 hp. This is turn two at Monroe Washington.

I had several wins with this car. I ended up 7th in championship points and won 'Rookie of the Year'.

This is our 69 Chevelle (number 18 above) coming out of turn 4 at Monroe.  This was taken in 1982 or 83.  I found this car in the weeds in a vacant lot.  It turns out that this was probably a Bobby Allison chassis (at least that's what the racers who knew their stuff said).  This was a good handling car but we were down on horsepower with a 350 ci Chevy engine that I pretty much built myself   ... probably around 400 - 425 HP

By the time we were racing the 69 Chevelle in the Northwest Late Model Sportsman Division, we had a better motor ... probably 475 HP.

This is me getting a bit loose during testing sessions in the 03 Camaro circa 1986/87.  This car was built on a Dillon chassis.  We had the same motor (a 350 ci chevy) from the Chevelle in this car, but by now we were making 550 HP.

This is the 69 Chevelle as it looked in 84/85 when we competed in Nascar Late Model Sportsman Division.  At the time this was just below Winston Cup level  ...  what is the Busch level now.  This was a Northwest traveling division but we could only afford to go to three tracks ... Monroe, Spokane, and Portland.

This is the car we actually made money with!

I always had a top 10 finish (not bad for a car that was 15 years old).  Best finish was 6th in a 120 lap main event at Spokane Washington.  .... Well always top 10 when I did finish  ... when I didn't blow up an engine or break something.

This is our last car, a 1984 or so Pontiac Ventura that we raced mostly at Lebanon raceway circa 1989-91.  A quarter mile dirt track in central Oregon. Matt McCoy was the primary driver for this ride, but I had a couple of turns at the wheel.

We did have a good outing in a Northwest Tour Division Race.  The car tested well and was pretty fast.  A broken transmission took us out of the race.

Matt and David (my two oldest sons ... mike wasn't old enough) served as crew.  Here we are in the shop getting the Ventura ready for the next race.
